Forrest was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring after many years of dedicated service. In 2016, he was honored to participate in an Honor Flight, an experience he deeply cherished. His life was marked by a steadfast commitment to service—both during his military career and throughout his civilian life.
Following his retirement, Forrest continued to serve others through volunteer work with organizations including TICO, Teen Challenge, and the DCSC gym. In recognition of his dedication and compassion, he was nominated for the Jefferson Award several times.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Forrest was a devoted member of Evangel Temple/One Church, where he faithfully attended since 1971. He worked closely with the youth group, taught Sunday School, and served as the leader of the Golden Fellowship. While stationed in England in 1954, Forrest gave his life to the Lord—an experience that shaped the remainder of his years. His faith guided every aspect of his life, and he proudly shared it with others.
Forrest had a wonderful sense of humor and a special gift for bringing joy to those around him. He loved telling jokes, laughing, and making others smile, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Kerns; his daughter, Peggy (Mark) Brooks; and his son, Frank (Clarice) Kerns. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nathan, Kristen, and Allison; his great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Raquel, and Kara; his siblings, Nancy Horvath, Glenda Mavrikis, Donald Kerns, and Donna Murray; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
