Lance ( Fred ) Kinder was born on May 1st, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on September 16th, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and son, Ty Kinder, along with other family members. He is survived by his daughter Jody Kinder Haag (Tom), grandchildren Paige and Cameron Wellman and great granddaughter Cora Wellman.
Fred served active duty in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was a military police officer. He was employed at Big Bear stores for 46 yrs, working as a meat cutter and in various warehouse positions.
He was a member of Grace Life Church in New Albany where he was fully involved and loved serving.
Spending time with family and friends was everything to him. Fishing trips, card clubs and bowling were some of his favorite pastimes. Being on the water whether it was on his boat, in a pool or at the beach was always top of his list. He and Ruthie loved to host family and friends for any and all occasions. It was always a special time for anyone to attend a party at their home.
Fred never knew a stranger. He was compassionate and caring; a gentle spirit who was drawn to everyone. His big dimples added to his charm and playful orneriness. He was warm and fun and easy to be around. He will be greatly missed by many.
Thank you to the Bickford of Upper Arlington, staff and residents, for showing Fred so much love in the 4 months he spent there. It was a blessing for us to see him so happy. Being in an assisted living environment, it was endearing to see how they all help each other. He made many new friends and hearts are broken at losing him.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bella Care Hospice, who cared for Fred for 28 months. They truly loved him. Although he graduated from hospice in April of 2025, his team checked in on him and were there for him in his last days as friends. They truly felt like our family. We are so grateful for their care.
