I expect to pass through this world but once.
Any good, therefore, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
- Stephen Grellet
Liddy Wilhelm Flynn, born on June 26, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Otto H. and Irma (Nagy) Wilhelm, passed away at Kobacker House on September 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her two cherished daughters, Jeanette “Jenny” Flynn and Monica “Mimi” Flynn Butler.
Gammer was a truly unique woman—a steadfast cornerstone of her family and a radiant beacon of God’s love. Despite enduring significant physical and emotional challenges, she always gave praise and glory to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was unwavering, and she prayed nightly for everyone she knew.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Gammer was the life of every gathering, captivating others with her humor and quick wit. When a doctor once noticed her unusual name and asked what she preferred to be called, she cheekily replied, “Your Highness!” Those who knew her will always remember her infectious laughter and the many joyful stories that followed her.
Gammer’s greatest pride was her family, who brought her immense joy throughout her life. She treasured spending time with them, especially during memorable trips and vacations. Her absence will be profoundly felt by her family and friends, but her legacy of love and laughter will endure.
Gammer was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in New Albany, Ohio. She previously enjoyed participating in her Red Hat Society group, “The Red Crested Bobbers,” and was a member of a water aerobics group called the “Dancing Hippos.”
Gammer is survived by daughters Kathryn “Kate” Flynn and Susan Flynn (Bob) Rutherford; son-in-law Stephen (Mimi) Butler; grandchildren Nicholas (Meng) Butler, Jocelyn Rutherford, Luke Butler, Austin (Pamela) Rutherford; great-grandchildren Henry Butler, Reece Rutherford, and soon-to-be-born great granddaughter, Amelia Butler; brothers Gary (Patti) Wilhelm and Bill Wilhelm; sister Karen (Chuck) Mixon; and dear friends.
Visitation will take place at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230 on Thursday, September 26, from 2pm-4pm, followed by a memorial service at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, Gammer requested for memorial contributions to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Serenity Prayer
Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
