

Matthew G. Mazzocco, 53 passed away peacefully at his home in Johnstown Sunday morning, December 13, 2025 with family and friends by his side after courageously fighting a ravaging two-year battle with ALS.
Matt was born November 2, 1972 in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Walnut Ridge High School where he played varsity baseball and participated in the sport all the way from elementary & tee ball. He earned his degree from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics in 1994, Shortly after graduating, Matt followed in his father's footsteps and started working with NetJets (Formerly Executive Jet) where he spent 30 years working as an aircraft mechanic. Matt was well loved at NetJets and formed life-long friendships with his co-workers, many of whom he considered brothers.
An avid and talented golfer, Matt could be found on the golf course most Friday afternoons with his father and friends that he enjoyed the sport with. He was very physically fit and active prior to his ALS diagnosis and attended CrossFit Veneration in Johnstown where he was well respected and admired. Matt loved cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins every season and was “the commissioner” for his fantasy football league with his NetJets friends. Inspired by his father, Matt had a great passion for cars and motorcycles and loved car shows and racing.
Matt is survived by his wife of 22 years and caretaker Tammy; his stepchildren Krista Kelly and Brent Lambert; his mother and father Gary and Gloria Mazzocco; his sister and brother-in-law Marcy and Steve Fenell, Nephews James and Michael Fenell; Uncles and Aunts; Vic and Cathy Mazzocco and Art & Jan Boni as well as his cousins from the Pittsburgh area.
Matthew will be greatly missed and forever remembered as a humble, kind man who was a friend to everyone and his legacy of humor, perseverance, and bravery will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Matthew fought his battle with ALS bravely and his faith sustained him until the end. Matt was baptized at home just two weeks prior to his passing in the presence of family and friends leaving a beautiful testimony of his faith in Jesus.
Visitation will be held at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230 on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 10:00am-12:00pm with Matthew's funeral service beginning at 12:00pm.
Matthew will be laid to rest at a private ceremony at Green Hill Cemetery in Johnstown, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS organization ‘Team Gleason’ in Matt’s honor.
The family would like to thank Ohio’s Hospice and Matt’s nursing team, specifically Teisha Cramer and Theresa Barker, who lovingly assisted Tammy with his care. A special thank you to daughter Krista Kelly, and Mark and Linda Harger who were instrumental in supporting Matt and Tammy across the finish line on their ALS journey.
