With extremely heavy hearts, we wanted to share the passing of a husband, son, father, & brother, and uncle of the sweetest person, Michael A. Bishop. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Bishop and his mother, Joan Bishop. He leaves behind his legacy to his wife, Karen Bishop; his children, Jake Bishop (Colleen), Rachel Bishop (Jamie Barlow), Daniel-Robin Bishop, and his stepchildren, McKenna Hunter (fiancé Michael Stephens), Paxon Hunter + Ceigen Hunter (Kaitlyn); his wonderful siblings Linda Clark, Dennis Bishop (Carol), and Larry Bishop (Nanette), his mother and father in-law, Jerry and Betty Seegers and his brother in law Jay (Jack) Seegers and several nieces & nephews plus many friends.
He had a zest for life and was very easy-going, the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Lacrosse was his greatest love and passion, which he played for more than 18 years.
He spent 20+ years working in real estate and homebuilding, to which he was deeply committed. He was always willing to help his clients and gave 100% in everything he did; for him, it was never just about closing a deal, but about building genuine connections.
He adored his wife and children, and family meant everything to him. He was expecting his first grandbaby in June.
He learned a great deal about carpentry and electrical work from his father, knowledge that further strengthened his skills as a realtor. He loved tinkering with his dad’s tools and took great pride in hands-on projects, including laying hardwood floors with his buddies Rick Petosa and Adam Hamilton, along with his stepson, Ceigen.
He was a graduate of “The” Ohio Wesleyan University, where he studied Geology and Economics. He was a proud member of the SAE fraternity and played baseball and football during both his high school and college years. He was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Guardians/Indians.
One of his closest childhood friends was his uncle, Wayne Albertson whom he often joked was technically his uncle but two years younger than him. In adulthood, his closest friends were Bo Bollenbacher and Joe Bronson.
In recent years, he enjoyed traveling, spending time at the gym, woodworking, and collecting fun mugs and hats from the many places he and his family visited. A particularly special place he loved to visit was St. Lucia, where he and Karen visited many times.
He had a special love for SpongeBob and cold beer, the latter sparked by famous quote of his fathers: “ I say good man, since you’re up, grab me a Miller’s.”
A memorial service will be held at Johnstown Methodist Church, 159 S Main St, Johnstown, OH 43031 on February 14, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life afterwards.
