

Phyllis Jean Johnson, 78 of Westerville, Ohio passed away Thursday December 11, 2025, at St Ann’s hospital. She was born April 8, 1947, in Matewan, West Virginia. Phyllis worked as a mail clerk for Nationwide Insurance until she retired.
She devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandma and friend. Phyllis was known for sewing quilts, doing word searches and jigsaw puzzles. She had a passion for the Lord and her family. Up until her last few months, you could find Phyllis quilting in her home and watching Hallmark movies. Phyllis enjoyed making quilts for family, friends and new arrivals. Phyllis gave her life to the Lord and was a member of various Baptist churches for over 50 years. In her younger years, Phyllis taught Sunday school at church.
Phyllis was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of over 54 years, Edward Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, C. Lee and Fannie May; and brother Don May.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children, Sherry (Jack) Powers, James (Carla) Johnson, Jim (Dawn) Ashby, and Becky (Thomas) McElhaney; grandchildren Ashley (Michael) Wilson, Justin, Emma, Meagan, and Steven; and great-grandchild, Wyatt; as well as numerous special uncles, aunts, and cousins. Phyllis will be dearly missed by all!!
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230, from 11:00am – 1:00pm, with Phyllis’s funeral service beginning at 1:00pm. Pastor Bill Baisden, officiating. Services will conclude with interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, where Phyllis will be laid to rest beside her husband.
