Robert “Bob” Ryan, a beloved elementary school teacher with Columbus City Schools whose kindness and steady presence shaped countless young lives, passed away on March 10, 2026 at the age of 52. His loss is felt deeply by family, friends, former students, and colleagues who knew his gentle spirit and quiet dedication.
For more than 25 years, Bob welcomed young people into his classroom with patience, encouragement, and the belief that every child had something special to offer. Many remember his calm voice, warm smile, and easy sense of humor – which made his classroom feel like a safe and welcoming place.
Outside the classroom, Bob founded Performance Dogs of Ohio with his brother Wesley. The two traveled throughout Ohio and neighboring states performing frisbee dog shows at fairs, schools, and sporting events. Together they brought joy to thousands of people – and built something that meant a great deal to them both.
Bob is survived by his mother, Trina; father, Alan; brothers Wesley and Jason; sister Marnie; and his loving partner, Shannon Link. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Carrie Ryan, wife of Wesley, and sister-in-law Cassie Hecker, wife of Jason. He was a proud and loving uncle to his nephews Levi Hall, Joshua Ryan, Sidney Ryan, and Liam Hecker, and to his nieces Maya Hall and Lily Hecker, who brought him immense joy.
Bob often repeated a saying his grandfather, Sidney Hecker, taught him: “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.” Those who knew Bob understood that he tried to live by those words every day.
Bob’s death leaves a deep ache in the hearts of those who knew him, but the kindness he shared will echo through generations.
May his memory be a blessing.
