Born in 1951 in Tyre, Lebanon, Sammy moved to the United States with his family at the age of five and grew up in the south end of Columbus, Ohio. He made a lasting impact in his community, both professionally and personally, over a lifetime of hard work, laughter, and love.
Sammy was a devoted husband to Robin Kanaan, with whom he shared over 40 years of marriage since their wedding on August 4, 1984. He was the proud father of Alison Kanaan, his only child and the light of his life. He is preceded in death by his cherished mother, Khanom (Kay) Kanaan and his father, Salim Kanaan.
Sammy’s professional life was marked by over four decades as a respected realtor with RE/MAX Associates and RE/MAX Connections, where his integrity and dedication earned the trust of countless clients and colleagues. He also served as a Supervisor at Ohio Stadium, where his passion for Ohio State Football was evident in every game day he worked—loving every moment at “The Shoe.”
Sammy found joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending time on the porch with Robin and their cats, Dudy and Sophie, and doting on his “granddogs,” Caamp and Kiko. His presence was magnetic; to know Sammy was truly to love him. His quick wit, enduring kindness, and warmth lit up every room and left an impression that will never fade.
He is survived by his siblings: Samira Beckwith and her husband, Jim Seivers; Maha Auborn and her children, Jarrod Singleton (father of Chase and Braedon); Brandye Singleton; Jenny Griffith and her children, Lauren and Evan Griffith (father of Weston and Brooklyn); and Sandy Kanaan. His extended family and many dear friends will carry on his memory with love and admiration.
Sammy fought his final battle with courage and grace. He was the heart of his family—their greatest man—and his legacy of strength, humor, and love will live on in all who knew him.
In place of a formal service, we respectfully ask that you honor Sammy through your personal reflections and memories.
