He was a resident of St. Simons Island, Georgia. Born in Arab, Alabama, to Dennis and Genora Green on March 19, 1939. He was raised in Baileyton and graduated from Fairview High School, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Phyllis Ann Vickery. Charles was preceded in death by Phyllis and their son, Charles Stephen Green, and survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Sean Hidalgo, his granddaughters, Britney (Emory) Stroberg, Erin, Emma and Sophie Hidalgo, and his great-grandsons, Roland, Ford, Lee, and Shepard Stroberg.
Charles, a retired truck driver with over 40 years of experience, took great pride in the "One Million Mile Safe Driver" title awarded to him while employed with Landstar Ranger. He began his career with Eagle Motor Lines, and it was there he found his passion for the industry and continued trucking after retirement, up until his health declined. Charles was a profound presence at New Georgia Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, was a Deacon, and a bus driver for the church's outreach program.
During his free time Charles enjoyed working in his garden, which was known to produce particularly delicious tomatoes. Building birdhouses and tables in his home garage were some of his favorite pastimes. Once retired, he continued these practices by making handmade gifts for family and friends. His daughter Denise refers to him as a lifelong "Tinkerer." Charles appreciated the simple life rooted in faith and family until his death.
