Chester Lee Smith

Chester Lee Smith, Age 79, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 24, 2016. He was retired from Plumber’s and Steamfitter’s Local Union 91. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Berlin Crisis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Opal Smith; 3 brothers, Frank, Kenneth and Ben Smith; 1 sister Shirley (Smith) Peoples.

Chester is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Gail (Wakefield) Smith; children, Donna Jenkins, Ginger Walker (Mike), Brian Smith (Shawna); Grandchildren, Garrett Smith, Jordan Walker, Christopher Jenkins (Vanesa), Sara Smith, Clayton Walker (Lindsey), Shea Deck (Michael), Bradley Jenkins, Kylee Smith, Landon Walker; Great granddaughters, Ava and Aaliyah Jenkins; Brothers, Ron Smith (Sandra) and Mike Smith; Sisters, Wilma Yarbrough (Arnold), Mary Tidwell (Larry), Peggy Weems, Diane Frazier, Susie Wills (Larry), Renee Schmitt (John, Teresa Erwin (Butch), Lori Ellen Steber (Greg). A host of nieces and nephews. He was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church.

Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. Visitation Sunday, Nov 27th from 4pm -6pm. Funeral Service Monday, Nov 28th, at 11am followed by his burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donation made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
