Corey Cordell

27 November, 197612 January, 2021

On Tuesday, January 12th, 2021, Thurman Howard Cordell, loving father of Sophia Josephine Cordell, passed away at the age of 44. He loved his daughter more than anything else in this world. She was the center of his world. He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Debbie, his daughter Sophia, his brother Brent, and his uncle Dale Anderson. His interests were racing, and he was a passionate supporter of the Tennessee Vols. Funeral services will be Monday, January 18th at Sharon Heights Baptist Church. Viewing at 12:00 noon, Funeral at 1:00 p.m. Graveside service will follow and be held at Crestview Memorial Gardens. In light of health concerns with the pandemic that is ongoing, the family understands any cautions and concerns family and friends may have in attending. They thank you for your prayers and condolences. His family asks that, in lieu of flowers, if anyone wishes, to please visit to make a donation in his memory to their Guatemala missions fund. Guatemala is one of the third world countries being hard hit by the pandemic. All funds donated will be used to help those who cannot help themselves. The family also wants to take this time to express their gratitude for the amazing MICU staff of UAB Hospital. These men and women bravely fought with every skill they possessed to help Corey during his illness. Our hearts have been touched by their bravery and professional excellence. 1 Corinthians 15: 51-55 “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

The first time I met Corey was on one of our yearly group camping trips. We connected really good on our latest trip and I could tell he was excited to be with his friends. Next to campfire, rain or shine, he was a trooper and brought out the best in all in us. I was always happy to see him. He was a good guy who cared about people and knew how to see the good in others. Rest in peace bro

Got to know Corey over the years through our camping trips & he was a great guy. Always willing to help out no matter what, with a positive attitude no matter the circumstances.

Definitely taken too early and will be missed. My thoughts & prayers are with his family and friends.

There are no words that can express the void that Corey’s passing has made. He was an incredible father and friend. We shared a lot of laughs and made a lot of fun memories. He absolutely adored his daughter, and we pray that she will always remember her father and how much he loved her. Corey was one of those friends you could always depend on and a true Christian. We will miss you my brother. Heaven truly gained an angel, and I know you will be watching over Sophia.

Corey took many trips with us to the beach and all kinds of events. He was nicknamed Corat for always pulling pranks. He will be missed.

Corey, I'm shocked and saddened from losing you at such a young age. I pray that God will bring strength beyond understanding to you Mom and Dad, and your beautiful daughter.

Rest in peace my friend. You're sorely missed.. I am happy we became friends and made so many memories.
