

Doris McCombs James passed away on June 14, 2016 at her home in Morris, Alabama, at the age of 80. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Charles R. James; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Puckett; her grandchildren, Jamie Puckett Tortorice (Ben), Beau Puckett (Lauren); her sister, Jean McCombs Little (Jimmy); her sister-in-law, Glenda James Garrett; her brothers-in-law, Ronnie Arnold and Harold Crane; and her great-grandchildren, Ella and Meredith Tortorice.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Percy and Cecil McCombs, and her sisters, Sharon McCombs Arnold and Mary Ellen McCombs Crane. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and their children, as well as numerous friends who loved her.
Doris was a lifelong member of the Morris Church of Christ. She grew up in a large, loving family with three sisters and attended Mortimer Jordan High School. They had a long and happy marriage, traveling around the world and living in Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. They returned to a permanent home in Alabama in 1993.
Doris was the pillar of support for family and friends and excelled at numerous abilities. Her skills of sewing, flower-arranging, cooking, painting, gift-wrapping and gardening were relied upon by many who knew her. Her sense of humor, strength and loving heart will be deeply missed.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel on Friday, June 17th, 2016. Graveside services will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL.
