

Eloise England Legg, age 100, passed away August 6, 2020. She was born January 18, 1920 in Jefferson County, Alabama to Loyal and Clarice England. Eloise grew up in Lawrence County during the Great Depression and attended Speake High School, where she was a member of the basketball team. In 1937 she met her future husband, R.J. Legg, while she was plowing behind a mule. He said he liked her looks and just stopped to say hello. They married on December 1, 1942 while he was on 3-day pass from the U.S. Army in Louisville, KY. They were happily married until his death in August 1989.
She worked for Britling, Moore-Handley and as a welder-riveter with Rheem Mfg. during WWII. After moving to Gardendale, she started a successful drapery business that she managed until her retirement.
She was a great cook, who never meet a stranger, and always had room for one more at the table. Before moving to Pelham, Eloise was active at Gardendale First Baptist Church, serving as Children Sunday School secretary for many years.
Survived by daughter, Priscilla Ingram (Ed) and son, Steven (Daphne), grandchildren, Stephanie Guido (PJ), Andrew Ingram, Samuel Legg, Joshua Legg and two great grandchildren, Caroline Guido, Blakely Guido.
Visitation to be held August 10th at 10:00 am, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with Graveside service to follow at 11:00 am, Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL. Social distancing will be practiced and facial coverings will be required.
