Floyd Garrett, Jr. age 88 of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on May 15, 2024. He was born to the late Floyd and Gracie Bell Garrett on March 11, 1936. Many knew him as Mr. G, whether it was from the farmers market, his years of serving Tarrant as a Police Officer or serving Jefferson County as a Special Deputy.
Mr. G had a wide range of talents; he could play almost any song by ear on his French harp. A few of his favorites to play were “Little Drummer Boy” and “Momma I Want A Drink of Water”. He never met a stranger as he enjoyed talking to anyone he came in contact with. He sold fresh, delicious produce at the farmers' market; at the end of the day any leftovers he had, Mr. G would make sure that his neighbors and the firefighters had plenty of fruits and vegetables for the week. He never wanted anyone to go hungry and found pure joy in helping others. He was the oldest of eight children and took on many responsibilities to help care for his family at a young age. During the time his children were young, they spent many weekends camping at various lakes fishing, laughing, and creating memories. Mr. G enjoyed hunting, fishing, and searching for treasures with his metal detector.
Floyd is preceded in passing by his loving wife of 62 years, Cora Ann Garrett; his son, Jeffrey Anthony Garrett, Sr.; his daughter, Sharon Annett Garrett; his brother, Earl Garrett; and his parents, Floyd Garrett and Gracie Bell Hill Garrett. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Garrett; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Gail Garrett; his cousins, William and Lynn Tidwell; and many friends and extended relatives. He will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will begin at 2:15 pm at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
