A veterinarian for over 40 years, Fred's love for animals was apparent, especially with the bird dogs he raised throughout the years. Fred also loved fishing and bird hunting and had a passion for field trials with his dogs. In his earlier years, he worked as a civilian for the Air Force at Eglin AFB in Pensacola, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Linda Brooks Nicholson, and two sons, Michael Randolph Nicholson and Joseph Randolph Nicholson. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maggie Brooke Caviness and Kyle Caviness, daughter-in-law Candace Nicholson, and his five grandchildren, Jackson Nicholson, Hayden Nicholson, Isaac Caviness, Kent Caviness, and Jilly Caviness.
Fred will be honored at a Celebration of Life on April 12, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, Alabama 35071.
