Haskey Walker Allison, 78, took her last earthly breath on April 20, 2024. Born on October 16, 1945, to John Henry Walker and Martha Zoe Sutley, Haskey grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1963. Haskey began working for the City of Vestavia Hills in 1971. She was a police and fire dispatcher known for her compassion, funny stories, delicious meals, and generous spirit. She married Richard Lynn Allison in 1974. They built a family and legacy in their children and grandchildren. Their home in Smokerise hosted many pool parties, family gatherings, card games, and cutthroat sessions of Trivial Pursuit. Haskey collected friends from all over Birmingham. Her stories of growing up in the city entertained her children and grandchildren for years. Stories of feeding her younger brother and his buddies hamburgers made from dogfood, scary nights being left on “Cry Baby Bridge,” and road trips to Miami have been told again and again.
Haskey retired from public service in 2005 after 34 years as a dispatcher and supervisor. She was a surrogate mother to many and friend to everyone. Her hospitality and open heart made others flock to her. Her phone would ring at all hours with friends checking in to share prayer requests, recipes, and weekly sale ads.
Haskey is preceded in death by her mother, Martha Zoe Sutley Walker, her father, John Henry Walker, her brother, John Henry Walker, Jr. (Patti), and her husband, Richard Lynn Allison. Haskey is survived by her sister, Martha Joe Sharpe. She leaves behind three daughters, Haskey Marie Bryant (Dwight), Laura Lynn Allison (Jared), and Jenny Cummings (Blake), grandchildren, Trey Bryant, Brooks Bryant, Dylan Bradley, Henry Cummings, Ellis Cummings, A.C. Wade, and Aubryn Wade. Haskey also leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and people from all over the place that are like family.
A follower of Christ, Haskey held membership at Crossroads Baptist Church. Her legacy of Christian service, thoughtful and generous actions and faith will be remembered. As she entered emergency surgery on April 5th, she told her daughters “Don’t worry, Jesus is with me, and He will take care of me.” As her weeks of illness and recovery got longer, she remained steadfast in faith; Jesus did watch over her, and she was called to her heavenly home.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM. Services to honor Haskey Allison will take place at Gardendale Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Graveside services will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Pastor John Parrish and Pastor Michael Jones will officiate. Aaron Anderson, Dylan Bradley, Dwight Bryant, Trey Bryant, Blake Cummings, Jacob Duckett, Tyler Mason, and Jared Wade will serve as pallbearers. Honor guard will be provided by Cullman City Police and Vestavia Hills Police and Fire Departments.
The Allison family is grateful to the very special nurses, care technicians and physicians of Cullman Regional Medical Center who took excellent care of our dear mother.
