

went home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 22, 2024, surrounded by family.
He was a plumber for over 30 years and recently retired. He loved to be outdoors, playing
horseshoes, going to the creek, grilling, cooking Cajun food, and Nascar, but most of all,
Alabama football.
He is survived by his wife, Tracie Bolden Abbott; his mother, Patsy Joy Handley Abbott; his
sister, Reneé Abbott Gassie; three step children, ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild with
another one on the way, and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Joey was preceded in death by his father, James “Slim” Abbott; his daughter, Samantha Nicole;
his paternal and maternal grandparents; his brother-in-law, David Gassie; and aunts and uncles.
Visitation to be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 1:00, with services to follow at 2:00, Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. Services will be conducted by Pastor
Tim Thompson of Glennwood Baptist Church. Burial will be at Glennwood Baptist Church,
Morris, Alabama.
In honor of the “Tide Man,” feel free to wear your Bama attire, and as Joey would say, “Rooollll
Tide Roll!”
