Leonard G Smyly

Leonard Grant Smyly, age 93 of Gardendale, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Leonard was born on December 19, 1926 in Magnolia, Al. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank Edward and Naomi Virginia Sealy Smyly, 12 brothers and sisters, 2 spouses Dorothy Smyly McMurrey and Doris Ann Wakefield Smyly. He is survived by his children Debbie Belding (James), Jerry Smyly (Irene),Terry Smyly (Jennifer), Ronnie Wakefield (Sue)and Donnie Wakefield (Robin). There were numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He loved his Lord and Savior and Church family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching Alabama football. His family was his greatest joy. His dog Spot was a great comfort to him in his last years. Leonard served in the Merchant Marines. He worked at Southeastern Metal and Brown Service Manufacturing Company where he retired. A special thanks to his neighbors Jon and Juanita Tidmore.

A visitation for Leonard will be held Monday, January 6, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 6, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A burial will occur at Old Union Cemetery, Spring Hill, Walker County, AL 35578.
