Mary Frances Guthrie

Mary Frances Guthrie, age 83 passed away after an extended illness surrounded by her family on November 8, 2020. She was preceded by her husband of 61 years of marriage, Sherrell E. Guthrie; her parents, Ruby and E. D. (Brother) Hale; her brothers- E. E. (Hunkie)Hale, Jackie Hale, Jerry Hale, John Hale and her sister- Eva (Tootsie)Toothman. She is survived by her sisters- Sherrie Allison, Peoria, IL; Geraldine

(Gerri) Austin (Bob), Hoover, AL; Stella Nolley, Gardendale, AL; Diann Fuller (Steve), Cullman, AL; brothers- Billy Hale, Hastings,FL; Charles Hale (Pat),Gardendale, AL; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Frances was a graduate of Cullman High School, Cullman, AL and UAB Birmingham, AL.

She was known for her faith in Jesus Christ, her love of her family and friends; and most of all for love of her “precious” dog (DAN) that has meant so much to her for the last 15 years.

Frances began her banking career at Exchange Security Bank where she met Harry B. Brock, Jr. and he had a dream to start Central Bank. She was asked to join him from day one and for the next 46 years. Frances had a great work ethic and over the years with the bank she managed several departments in Operations. As Vice President she continued her commitment to the bank in any way possible. She ended her career in Correspondent Banking. The bank was a great love for her, and she saw it grow from Central Bank to Compass Bank to now BBVA Compass. She leaves behind many special friends from her long days in banking.

During her career she was on the AL State Banking Board, American Institute of Banking, Finance Board of Mt. Vernon United Methodists Church, member of The Club, and several other organizations.

Memorial services will be at Rideout’s Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, AL on Thursday November 12th,

10:30 AM - 11:00AM visitation, Service at 11:00AM with burial at Flint Creek Baptist Church, Vinemont, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Mt. Vernon United Methodists Church, Children’s Building Fund: 805 Crest Drive, Gardendale, AL 35071 or The Humane Society.
