

Mary R. Whisenant passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on March 27, 1939, in Carrollton, Alabama, Mary lived a life marked by compassion, devotion, and kindness. She spent many years in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she met her husband, Dan.
Mary retired from Fultondale Elementary School as a selfless and gentle Secretary on June 30, 2005. Her career was distinguished by her dedication and kind-hearted nature, which left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Mary was deeply committed to her family. She was married to Dan Whisenant and adored her grandson, David. Her family was the center of her world, and she was known for her unwavering support and love.
In her personal life, Mary found joy in cooking, baking, quilting, challenging her mind by working puzzles, and was an avid reader. Her hobbies reflected her nurturing spirit and passion for creating warmth and comfort for those around her.
Mary Whisenant is survived by her loving daughters, Deborah Whisenant Culberson (Michael) and Donna Evelyn Whisenant; grandson, David A. Barber. She is predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Dan L. Whisenant; mother, Imogene Adams; father, Thomas Arthur Richardson and Wallace Hartley; as well as sisters, Betty Bishop (Cecil) and Joyce Bonner.
A visitation will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, located at 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, Alabama, on January 4, 2026, starting at 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the same venue, beginning at 2:00 pm. Mary will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Gardens, 2100 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing in remembrance of Mrs. Mary R. Whisenant. Her legacy of compassion and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
