Nellie Fines

Nellie Fines, born August 26, 1931 gained her angel wings early Tuesday morning, August 12, 2025, at the age of 93 was surrounded by her loved ones. She was a loving wife, mother and maw maw/granny and a friend to anyone who needed her.

She loved southern gospel music, for many years she sang in a gospel group with her family and friends called Gospel Revelations. She loved gardening and taking care of her yard when she was able, because nobody could do a good job like her. Her greatest pastime was taking care of her grandkids and great grandkids. If you sat down and talked to her, she was first going to tell you about her Lord, followed by her family, you were not going to get away until she showed you pictures and talk about her grandkids and especially her precious great grandchildren.

She was an active member of Fieldstown Church of God until recently she became a member of Faith Church of the Nazarene.

Nellie is preceded in death by her beloved Elzie, and her parents Jay and Mary Hunts, and seven brothers, and two sisters.

Nellie is survived by three sons: James (Sheila) Fines, Paul (Lisa) Fines and Jerry (Julie) Fines, six grandchildren: Eric (Dawn) Fines, Amy (Mike) Vincent, Anderson Fines, Emerald Fines, Troy (Ashley) Fines and Chad (Nicole) Fines, along with 10 great grandchildren, Tommy, Dylan, Junaid, Lucy, Elzie, Hunter, Lucas, McKinley, Alyson and Annmarie due in January.

We want to give a special thanks to all her caretakers at UAB (St. Vincent's Hospital) who took care of her and listened to all her stories and her sermons she would give to many.

We as the family want to give a very special thank you to Ashley Fines, she went well and beyond helping the family and taking care of her beautiful Granny, we could not have got through this without you, we love you.

Nellie service will be held Saturday, August 16th at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, AL 35071. Visitation 10:00 to 11:00 AM Service 11:00 AM followed by graveside at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
