Raye, went to be with the Lord on Friday at the age of 64. He was retired from the Gardendale City Works Department. Raye was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Gurganus; father, A W Gurganus and a brother, James Aire Gurganus. Survivors include his daughter, Martha (Jim) Ajamian; son, Jeffrey Raye (Lovena) Gurganus; two grandsons, Matthew and Tony Ajamian; four brothers, Grady (Sherry) Gurganus of Fultondale, Mac (Sue) Gurganus of Fultondale, George (Jeanne) Gurganus of Hanceville, Danny (Sandra) Gurganus of Arley; five sisters, Kathryn Lynn of Orange, Texas, Betty (J.B.) Alexander of Fultondale, Gladys (Tommy) Penny of Morris, Rose (Frank) Vickery of Mt. Olive and Mary (Michael) Harpman of Empire; one Aunt Ruth Laningham of Warrior and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends with a special friend; Avis Baker.
Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Monday, June 2, with a visitation from 9:45am until 10:45am with a funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the Moncrief Cemetery.
