Samuel grew up in Mount Olive, AL with an older sister Betty Lou and younger brother, David. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served aboard the USS Hornet from 1956-1959, then joined the U.S. Naval Reserve. He studied at Auburn University, UW Eau Claire, completing a BS Degree. He met his future wife, Leone E. Dahlby in Sparta, married and raised a son, Samuel III and daughter, Lori during his 50-years in Wisconsin. He started his career as a Radio Dispatcher for the Wisconsin State Patrol and retired as a Computer Systems Analyst for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction with over 30 years of service.
Samuel is preceded in death by his wife, Leone, and his sister, Betty Lou Bush Brown. He is survived by his brother, David, his son, Samuel and daughter-in-law Beth, his Daughter, Lori and Son-in-Law, James, and grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Ryan, Lindsey and Logan, Great Grandchildren, and close friend, Francis.
After the passing of Leone in 2007, he returned to Mount Olive, AL for his permanent residence. He was a licensed Amateur Hamm Radio Operator and served as a Board Member of the Mount Olive Community Center. He loved animals, and treasured the company of his two dogs, Twinkle and Buddy. He also enjoyed staying in touch with his Naval Shipmates.
A visitation for Samuel will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071; funeral service at 2:00 PM, followed by his burial in Mount Olive Cemetery, Mount Olive, AL with military honors.
