

Suzane McIlwain Cox, age 71 of Mount Olive, Alabama went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 20, 2023. She was born to the late Charles McIlwain and Betty Wilds Ward on April 10, 1952. Suzane was a dedicated mother, wife, Nonna, and friend. She loved her family and creating memories with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends that were like family. A true hero in the eyes of her family, Suzane was able to donate her liver in order to save the life of a stranger. Suzane retired after thirty six and a half years of service with BellSouth. She was a devoted member for many years at Gardendale First Baptist Church and was a member of the Journey Sunday School class. Suzane shared many laughs and forever memories with her bunco group for over twenty years, lazy days in Destin with the Beach Babes, and over fifty years of friendship with Bonnie and Sharon. Suzane was an avid Braves Baseball and all Auburn University sports fan, but she never missed a sporting event that involved her children or grandchildren making her their number one fan.
Suzane is preceded in death by her father, Charles McIlwain; her mother, Betty Wilds Ward; her stepfather, Olin Ward; her brothers, Bo McIlwain and Terry Owens. She leaves behind her loving husband of twenty one years, Danny Cox; her children, Sherí Barker (Derrick), Clint Spears (Kari), Christa Dransfield (Dave), Andrew Myrick (Kristen), Allison Fulton (Robert), Adam Cox (Jana), and Alan Cox (Tony Russo); her grandchildren, Taylor Barker (Alyssa), Ty Barker, Hutton Spears, Kardyn Spears, Jaycee Dill, Tanner Dill, Connor Dransfield, Beth Dransfield, Rosie Dransfiled, Peyton Myrick, Easton Myrick, Avery Myrick, Hannah Rice (Kory), Jackson Keith (Ashlyn), Kayleigh Fulton, Sadie Fulton, Nathan Cox, and Addison Cox; her great grandchildren, Ellie and Marlee Kate; her siblings, Vicki List (John), Scott McIlwain, Miranda Schrubbe (Ben), and Jeff McIlwain (Courtney); her sister in laws, Carolyn McIlwain and Denise Owens; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Derrick Barker, Dave Dransfield, Robert Fulton, Taylor Barker, Ty Barker, Hutton Spears, Tanner Dill, Easton Myrick, and Nathan Cox will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Suzane always had a desire to help others in need, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Benevolence Fund at Gardendale First Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Suzane Cox.
