Timothy T. Thomas was born November 4, 1950, in Gardendale, Alabama. His Parents were Earl W. Thomas and Evelyn Quick Thomas. He is survived by brothers, Michael E. Thomas (Elizabeth) and Paul A. Thomas (Yvonne), nephews, Kevin Thomas (Taylor), Michael, Jr Thomas (Katie); nieces, Carla Hawkins, Erica Thomas, Rebecca Thomas Whitten (Michael), grandnephew, Jack Thomas; grandnieces, Jane Thomas and Olivia Thomas.
Tin attended Gardendale High School where he learned the trade of drafting. He later took classes at Jefferson State to advance his career. He went to work at the Birmingham Water Works as a draftsman and retired as a project manager.
Tim Loved being outdoors. In the 70’s and 80’s his hobby was dune buggies. His last one was one he designed and built around an engine he ordered from California. Often times, when riding with friends, when they would find a hill, they were not sure they could climb, the word was to let Tim go first as he had the best chance of anyone! After dune buggies, he bought a Norton 650 motorcycle and later a Harley Sportster which he rode for many years. For many years he had a bass boat and enjoyed fishing with his friends.
When Tim retired, he picked up the pace rather than slow down. He built a shop bigger than his house, the envy of most men. Doing a lot of the work himself and overseeing the rest. He then proceeded to fill his shop with all the tools, gadgets, cables TV, air conditioning, wood burning stove, and bathroom. Yes, he had a leather recliner out there!!
He bought a tractor and started a garden behind his shop. He loved growing vegetables and always gave away most of it to neighbors and friends, He was always researching the internet to find better ways to make his garden produce more.
When his kitchen needed an upgrade, he bought a few more tools, and self-taught himself how to build the cabinets. He then demolished the kitchen and replaced the cabinets and plumbing!
Tim went to his shop everyday just like going to work. You might find him in his recliner or in the midst of a project. He never rushed to finish a project because he did not want to work himself out of a job! He was a hard worker and believed if you want anything in life you have to work for it. He learned metal turning and fabrication to make replacement parts for his tractor and friends. In the winter, his wood burning heater was always hot and ready to welcome visitors who wanted to sit and discuss problems of the world.
Tim will always be remembered as a man who was ready to help his family and friends, expected everyone to help shoulder the load, would try most any type of job needed done and usually was successful.!
A visitation for Timothy will be held Friday, October 14, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
