

Valerie Gail Perez Stell of Fultondale, Alabama passed away surrounded by family on August 30, 2024. She was born on July 16, 1964, in Artesia, California, the second oldest of an eventual six children. Valerie was a beloved wife, mother, Grammy, sister, and friend, cherished for her unwavering spirit.
Valerie was known for her strong will and resilience, recognized as the “strongest woman alive” who defied death for decades by God’s grace. She was a kidney transplant recipient in 2001, a testament to her incredible strength. Valerie’s passions included cheering for Alabama Football, crafting, and spending quality time with her family, especially her grandsons who brought immense joy to her life. She famously never allowed a birthday party to pass without ice cream. She enjoyed the tunes of Donny Osmond and Elvis, often filling her home with her off key singing along. She was graduate of Fultondale High School, class of 1982, known for her dedication even then.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo Gordillo Perez and Helen “Ruth” Mendibles, and her beloved baby brother, Ray Mendibles; as well as other cherished family members. She is survived by her husband, Larry Stell; daughter, Summer Perez (Joshua McLeroy); her cherished grandsons, Ray and Bruce McLeroy; her siblings, Emily Perez (Darrell Ray), Angelia Wright, Helen Dean (Anthony), and Paul Bibby (Julie); stepfather, Manuel Mendibles; as well as a host of treasured nephews, nieces and family friends.
Valerie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. Tough as nails and smarter than anyone had a right to be, Valerie was a force of nature. Even when she was wrong, she was right. There will never be anyone as strong as Valerie Stell.
A visitation for Valerie will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A Celebration of Life will occur Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel. The Family requests that those attending Thursday wear their Alabama Crimson Tide gear in honor of her love of the game.
