

Clarence Joseph “C.J.” Fontenot, 90 of Georgetown passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010. Visitation was held at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 1, 2010. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Hixson Funeral Home, 3001 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana. A service celebrating C.J.’s life and his faith will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, December 4, 2010 in the Chapel at Hixson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Prien Memorial Park. C.J. was born on January 22, 1920 in Eunice, Louisiana to the late Eugene and Aledia Fontenot. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Daisy Mae Hebert Fontenot in 2004; his sisters, Edith Manning, Ena Fontenot, Lucy Wisdom, Luna Cockran, and Della Derouen; his brothers, Ivan Fontenot, Dalton Fontenot, Lee Fontenot, Clifton Fontenot, Benard Fontenot. C.J. was raised in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. He worked as a clerk and butcher in the family store as a young man. C.J. joined the United States Army in 1939; he was a proud member of the Headquarters Troop 1st Squadron 12th Cavalry Division. C.J. served during WWII, working with the FBI combating German intelligence spy rings from Mexico into Texas. During his time in the military he was awarding 3 Purple Hearts, the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, as well he was name the best horse trooper turned out soldier in a division of 34,000 men. C.J. retired from the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in 1945, having lead and supervised many tactical and patrol reconnaissance missions into enemy territory. C.J. married Daisy Mae Hebert on December 28, 1942 in Lake Charles, LA. They spent most of their lives in that area working hard and raising their family. C.J. worked for the Cities Service Refinery as a Journeyman Pipefitter for over 31 years, retiring in 1979. C.J. and Daisy moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1981. They joined New Hope Christian Church in Hutto, he served as both as a deacon and an elder. C. J. leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving children, Annette Acton and her husband Joe of Lincoln, Alabama, Brenda Tumlinson and her husband Otie of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Larry Fontenot of Georgetown, Texas; his grandchildren, Morgan Acton of Oxford, Alabama, Heather Dayhoff and her husband Kenneth, Ashley Tumlinson and Morgan Tumlinson all of the Albuquerque, New Mexico area, Desirae Fontenot, Danielle Fontenot and Dominique Fontenot all of Georgetown, Texas; great grandchildren, Austyn M. Dayhoff, Hannah Belle Dayhoff, Logan Tumlinson, Gavin Tumlinson and Auska Tumlinson; along with numerous other loving family members and friends.
