

Dorothy was born April 21, 1926 to Ben and Vera Ylitalo. She attended Sam Houston University where she met her husband of 50 years, James David Schmidt. She and James retired from teaching from Spring Branch School district in Houston to Georgetown, Texas. Dorothy was an art teacher for many years and her passion for the creative continued in her love of quilting. She was an active member of the St. John’s United Methodist Quilting group for many years as well as a member of the Georgetown Quilting Group that was honored by having a quilt on display at the Houston International Quilt show. This quilt is on display in the Georgetown Library. She won many awards for quilting and was featured in the Georgetown View Magazine. She was also a founding member of Handcrafts Unlimited on the Georgetown square.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Meredith and her husband, and son David Schmidt. She also is survived by granddaughters Hailey and her husband, and Casey and great granddaughters, Caroline and Katherine. Graveside services will be held at the family plot in Georgetown, Texas on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m..
