Jefferson Davis Logan, 72, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on September 14, 2024. Born on September 16, 1951, in Georgetown, Texas, Jeff lived a life filled with adventure, lasting friendships, and a deep love for family. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Jeff” to family and friends alike.
Growing up on the Logan Ranch, just north of Georgetown, Jeff developed a passion for hunting that would stay with him for a lifetime. A proud graduate of Georgetown High School, Class of 1970, he cherished his time hunting white-tailed deer across South Texas, West Texas, and the Panhandle. He also found joy in hunting elk in the majestic landscapes of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. In his younger days, Uncle Jeff enjoyed hunting coons with hounds.
Jeff enjoyed a fulfilling career, dedicating 35 years to the Texas Department of Transportation (Austin Division), where he played a vital role in maintaining the roads that connect communities. After retiring from the state, he continued his career for another decade as a truck driver at Pope Materials, Inc., where he was known for his reliability and dedication.
During his life, Jeff was married two times and maintained friendships with both of his ex-wives, Carol Brautigam and Tita Rojas, until his passing, showcasing his capacity for love and kindness.
He is preceded in death by his father, J.D. Logan, and mother, LaVerne (Hunt) Logan. Although we are deeply saddened by Jeff’s passing, we are comforted knowing that he is reunited with Granny and Grandpa.
Jeff is survived by beloved sisters, Betty (Logan) Pope and husband Bobby, and Joan (Logan) Joseph and husband Jimmy. He leaves behind a legacy of love through nephews Logan Pope and wife Tammie, Jimmy Joseph and wife Terri, and Scott Pope and wife Marie, as well as niece Stacy (Joseph) Lilley and husband Jeff Lilley. He was also a cherished great-uncle to Clint Joseph (Mariah), Ragan Pope (Shelby), Ashton Pope Slater (Michael), Jordan Pope, Madison Stacy (Kyle), Rhett Coleman, Rowdy Lilley, Jake Lilley, Brittany Niederhauser and Casey Niederhauser (Katie). Great-great nephews include Brooks Pope, Clay Joseph, and Noah Niederhauser and great-great nieces Macey Joseph, Morgan Joseph, Gracie Pope, Kate Pope, Sawyer Stacy, Phoenix Lilley, and Melody Niederhauser.
Special thanks go out to friends Scot Hall and Chris Leith, who made it possible for Jeff to hunt white-tailed deer (and one unlucky mountain lion) in West Texas and elk in Utah. The time Jeff spent guiding other hunters and sometimes serving as Camp Cook on the Mitchell Ranch in Pandale, Texas, was truly a special time in his life. He was honored to meet and become friends with many people from North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia through Scot and Chris! God bless both of you for your generosity.
Jeff will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, strong family ties, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Heritage Country Church in Salado, Texas, on Friday, October 18th at 11:00 AM, officiated by longtime friend of the family, Pastor Ricky Lindsey. Food and reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, honoring Jeff's love for nature.
Rest in peace, Uncle Jeff. Your spirit will forever roam the ranches you loved.
