

John Blanton Elder died on May 12, 2009, in Georgetown after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was born December 27, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to the late Arthur B. and Inez Staub Elder. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, The University of Houston and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. John served in the US Navy during World War II, in training and as a line officer, aboard the USS Bristol in the Mediterranean/Atlantic Fleets. The Reverend Doctor Elder was a Minister in the Presbyterian Church, U. S. A. for more than 50 years, having organized new congregations in San Antonio, Houston, and Georgetown and pastored churches in Wharton, Sinton, and Leander, Texas. He was a licensed Psychologist employed by the U. S. Army, Air Force and Veterans Administration in Europe, as well as in the United States. He taught Psychology at the Universities of Houston, Central Texas, and Maryland in the Asian and European Divisions. Surviving John are his wife of 34 years, Theresia; daughters, Nancy and husband Robert Hudson; Jeanne and husband Terry Hudson; sons, Arthur and John Eric; grandchildren, Scott and Hannah; brothers, Arthur G. and Jimmy; sister, Dolly, as well as family in The Netherlands. John loved to travel and life, music of Edith Piaf and Willie Nelson. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday May 17th, at 3:00PM at Leander Presbyterian Church with Rev. John R. “Pete” Hendrick and Rev. Don Harnden celebrating. “John, we will miss you dearly, with much love,” your family and friends.
