Dave was a neighbor of mine back in the ‘70s. Dave would walk the neighborhood late nights after his long day to relax and unwind.  That is where I met him. I was working on my car about 1:00am and Dave came by to see if I was ok because of all the cussing he heard.  Over time Dave and I became good friends and he mentioned that meeting often.  Very talented and gentle soul.  This time of year brings many reflections and I was thinking of Dave tonight.  Sorry to hear he passed but I know he enjoyed his time hear.  Rest easy my friend.

Played at Oakdale Mortuary & Memorial Park in Glendora CA, by group of trumpet players, coming together from across the country, that were among Dave Evans' students, peers, colleagues, friends and family members.

I thought of Dave Evans randomly today and did an internet search to see what he has been up to. When I was in middle school, I had the opportunity to go and study at the Idyllwild Arts Academy during their 2 - week summer program back in the summer of 2005. Though this was the only contact I had with Dave, I remember him having a great sense of humor, and being very friendly. I also remember that he liked the double doubles from Inn and Out. On the last week of camp he shared with us the story about how he became sick or something of the sort, and how he say his guardian angel. From what I've been reading, it seems like he had a really positive effect on the lives of a lot of people. I'm sad to hear of his passing, and give my condolences to his beloved family and friends.

I thought of Dave tonight and just saw that he had passed away and I’m sad to hear he is no longer with us.

He was my teacher for many years back in the 1970’s and 80’s. He was not only an incredibly talented trumpet player and teacher , but an inspirational ,positive , kind person with a great sense of humor.  His lessons often applied to more than just music. I used two of Dave’s mottos throughout my life endeavors, and in mentoring others….. “Go for Greatness” and “No Problem”. Whenever challenges arose , Dave had a solution and they are still my go-to responses. 

 Dave was a generous person and responsible for some of my best life experiences including performing at Disneyland and in the 1984 Olympics . Margie and I will always be grateful for Dave’s  trumpet playing at our wedding in 1985, some 40 years ago this month. 

The Danny Boy Tribute was beautiful. He was a very special person and will always be remembered.

Learning of Mr. Evans’ passing breaks my heart.  He did so much to shape the person I am today and brought so much genuine goodness to the world.  I was a student of his both in elementary school and at Landis JHS around 1978-80.  He had a heart attack during that time and it was rough having another band director during that time.  We were so glad when Mr. Evans returned!  One awesome memory was when he took a few of us in his cool Mercedes to one of the elementary schools to promote the band program and he cranked up this popular song from that era called “Pop Music” and honked his horn in time to the song.  Such fun we all had with him!  Years later my own children were in the Upland HS band (clarinet and color guard), and I discovered that several of our trumpet players took private lessons from him.  Such a small world.  I will never forget him and am so thankful for the role model he was for us all.  One in a million and a blessing to all!

I was literally thinking of Mr. Evans today!! He was my band teacher at Foothill Middle School. He was such a vibrant and passionate person. His love for music was contagious. So sad to hear of his passing. Cathy - hope you are doing well. You were my preschool teacher at Citrus College. Sending you love and prayers!

Dave Evans was my trumpet teacher from 7th grade through my sophomore year of majoring in trumpet performance at UCLA. While I segued into journalism and decided not to pursue a musical career, I always
knew he would be in my corner had I continued on toward a care er as a symphonic trumpet player. Blessings to you. Cathy. I remember my visits to your place in Glendora with great fondness. I’m so  glad I got to visit in 2012, the last time I was in LA.

Stan Watkins here.. Dave was a  great teacher and a great human..Still using stuff he taught me way back in 1979. 

My sister Susan Branek Antaky and I were students of Mr. Evans, at Landis Jr. High.  I learned to play trumpet and as I graduated high school and was going to college, he went with me to pick out my Bach Strat I was buying.  That was the kind of person he was.   My sister was his first female drum major at Landis.  She learned to play flute and she was one of his favorite students in that era.

Dave was an integral part of me becoming the musician I am today.  It is a huge honor to have spent those Saturday mornings with him when I was a kid.  I really regret not reaching out sooner to share my musical journeys with him.  I know he would have been proud.  Im eternally grateful for the gifts he shared with us all.

Dave Evans will always be in my memories.  I met him through the CG Brass Camp.  We hit it off from the very first time we met.  We stayed up into the middle of the night telling  jokes and trumpet stories.  We always repeated those same jokes and stories each year and they just got better and better.  His trumpet playing was amazing.  I always admired him for doing those trumpet recitals at the CG Camp. There was never a dull moment when I was around him. Mr Evans was my band teacher at Landis Jr High in Baldwin Park. I had just tracked him down and sent an email on Jan 1 - just to thank him for the confidence he gave me and to let him know I was thinking of him. Tonight I find this obituary and I’m deeply saddened that i didn’t reach out to him sooner. 

My sincere condolences to his family. Mr Evans was such a nice man and I’ll remember him always. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Sir.

When I heard that Dave Evans had passed away, I was terribly saddened because we were colleagues for many years in the Idyllwild Arts Summer program. He was a brilliant and gifted teacher, conductor and coach who inspired his students to become their very best. 
He was always positive and generous in his approach to teaching and he touched many lives in his role as conductor/music director and teacher. I will always remember him as a friend who devoted his life to music and passing on everything he learned in his life-journey.

About my third lesson with Dave on a Saturday morning at 8:30, after a basketball game on Friday, I was fried. I sit next to Dave and just kinda stare. I notice he has a cup of coffee. I could really use some coffee, I stick my finger in his coffee cup. He says ”Kev, you want some coffee?” I go”yah” he yells KATHY!!! Need another cup of coffee. Dave and I couldn’t figure out a time to meet, so he started early on Saturday mornings for me. That still speaks volumes to me to this day. What an  awesome player, teacher, friend, mentor, and coffee giver. Have a cup with Kathy!

Being one of Dave's students for years has been such an amazing experience. Trying to comprehend the loss of someone who I has been a big part of my life is hard to deal with. So I will continue to follow in his footsteps to try and teach others from what teachings I have learned through Dave Evans. May he forever leave a legacy on us all.
