Doris passed away peacefully on October 16th 2020 in the comfort presence of close family members. She was 89 years old and lived in Montclair, California. Doris valiantly fought breast cancer and other health issues, her will to fight and live was unparalleled.
Doris was born on March 4th 1931 to Matthew F. Pells and Dorothy (Goodspeed) Pells. Her and her 7 siblings grew up in Cotuit, Massachusetts.
Doris graduated in 1948 from Barnstable High school in Hyannis, Mass, she enjoyed performing in the Glee club and was an avid Christian, she found the belief of the lord very early on in life and attended church with her family at the Federated Church in Cape Cod.
Doris married her first husband La Val Couture in 1950, he was a sergeant stationed at a nearby air force base. They started their family and had 5 children, Connie, La Val (Bud), Candie, Vickie, and Colette. Doris spent 14 years as a military wife, moving the growing family to new bases as necessary, eventually bringing them to California. After a few years they divorced. She then met and married Clyde (Bill) Dunnuck whom had 2 daughters, Lynne and Michele, and together they had their daughter Denise.
Doris worked at Clayton Federal Credit Union for over 20 years, retiring as the credit union manager. After retiring Doris and Bill moved to Redlands and started a photo imaging business which kept them traveling, they also donated their time at the San Dimas Senior Center doing income taxes for the elderly for many years. After Bill passed in 2001 Doris discovered her passion for painting and took many classes where she met her companion Harm Wietsma, they enjoyed and went on excursions through the Montclair Senior Center and made many friends.
Doris loved her crossword puzzles and reading her newspaper every day, she adored her family and was a wonderful role model to so many, she was a true family monarch, may we all continue to shower everyone with the abundance of love and support she instilled in all of us.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Dorothy, her husband Bill, her sisters Glenna, Audrey, Wilhelmina and Ruth, brother Matthew Jr, her son La Val Jr, her daughters Colette and Michele and granddaughter Kelsey.
She is survived by her brother James, daughters Connie, Candie, Vickie, Denise and Lynne. 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
A visitation and Funeral service will be held on November 18, 2020 at
Oakdale Mortuary
1401 South Grand Ave.
Glendora, California starting at 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
Lunch reception will be held following the service at the Keck’s 1744 Winston Ave Upland, Ca. 91784
