Jo Ann was born in Atlanta, GA on October 11, 1933, the only child of Annie Nelder Tanner and raised during her early years in the four-generation household of her grandparents in Troup County, GA. In 1946 the family moved to Gardner, KS.
Jo Ann and her two sons moved to Glendora CA in 1965 after the death of her first husband Paul Egan. In 1966 she married Jesse Hughes, a widower who also had two children and together they raised their blended family in the home that has been the gathering place for a loving, growing family.
Jo Ann truly enjoyed being a homemaker and after the kids grew up JoAnn kept busy with morning walks with neighbors, working in the garden, baking and making candies with grandchildren and later on playing board games and doing her daily crosswords.
Jo Ann is predeceased by her husbands, Paul Egan and Jesse Hughes and son James Egan. She is survived by children Paul (Denise) Hughes, Belinda (Troy) Hughes-Smith and Bernie (Beth) Egan, daughter-in-law Jeanne Egan, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
