Mom, do you remember when Ben was born and you flew to Colorado to be with us?

After Ben was born and they put me in my room, it was so very cold.  Somehow you managed to find a warm blanket and made sure it was tucked around me.  You stayed with me until I fell asleep.

I remember asking you, “I’ve never felt as much love as I have for this baby.  Do you know what I mean?  Did you ever feel like this?”

You smiled and just said, “Yes.”

My husband John & I did not have the honor of knowing Josephine, but she produced a lovely family.   We feel we do know her, however, through her daughter Doreen whose friendship we have been blessed with for many years.   Thank you Josephine.   Rest in peace.

Thank you for being a wonderful mother-in-law! We've shared many memorable moments together. I especially like the memories of Christmas gatherings when Lino, Roxanne, Leslie, Ben and Maria were young.

You always opened your home to me and ALL my family and friends. I'll miss you, but I'm glad you're with your "handsome guy" once again!

I sometimes take photographs of stuff that pops up in my yard.  If I think they are interesting enough, I send them to my friend Doreen.  When I sent her a photo of a monarch butterfly on a zinnia flower she showed it to her mom.  Josephine thought to make a watercolor painting of it, which is what you see here.  Isn’t it beautiful?
Also, in my yard I collect the monarch caterpillars and keep them in a terrarium, and feed them milkweed until they form a chrysalis and hatch, and then I send them safely on their way.  Sometimes I name them.
From my yard up here in New York they fly all the way back to Mexico.  What a journey.  This summer I will name all of them Josephine.


Josephine and Lino were my Ninos.  "Nina Fina and Nino Lino".  I remember spending a lot of time at their house with all the cousins  Doreen, Susie, Mary and Linito, also Barbara, Lisa, David, Sylvia, Maryellen,  Tina and Nick and my sisters Anna and lydia and brother John. There were so many of us and we all had such a good  time together an sometimes we would get into trouble, but my Nina Fina would  always  keep us in line, while all the ladies were having fun joking and gossiping. Now all the sisters and my mom are back together again. I know they are joking and telling  wonderful stories  about us.

I have a sticker on the window of my car from Penzey’s Spices that says “Heal The World - Cook Dinner Tonight”.

Josephine cooked a delicious dinner for us a few years ago and Paul and I will always remember that meal - especially the soup course.  Truly, we were waited on like royalty and felt cared for.  I guess that’s where the phrase “made with love” came from.

Cooking involves skills, planning, time, money, and energy. It is labor intensive but a very real and tangible way, I think, of showing love. It tells friends and family that they’re worth the effort and that you want them to feel nourished and cared for.  What could be more important than that?

Doreen - Your Mom would take a blank canvas and create beautiful things - with her cooking, painting and sketches.  She also gave me a beautiful friend.

My Tia Fina was the one who taught me how to bake delicious cakes & cookies. I always remember she used to tell me “ you need to use blue bonnet margarine, or it won’t come out right!” I always wanted to use imperial, cause it was cheaper 😐. She was right, it really made a difference.  🙄 What a talented lady, in addition to baking, cooking , sewing, gardening, crocheting, knitting, needle point, painting.  My mom  would say this is the way Fina does it.  She really admired her talent.

It was July 4th early eighty's. I had the privilege to take my mom Anita , Fina and Connie to see Tom Jones at the Greek Theater.  All the girl's sat to the left of me, and Connie next to me. Tom Jones began to dance and  shake his hips( Ha Ha) everyone  was screaming and laughing.  I glanced over to my Mom , she was laughing  and nudging  Fina with her elbow.  I gestured  to Connie to look at the girl's!!! Connie was so cool, she just shook  her head and smiled!!  I can still see them giggling.  

We moved next door to Josephine and Lino in June 1975.    They were the best neighbors we ever had and we have had some really fine neighbors.    The day in 2007 we told them we were moving away to be close to our grandchild was one of the most difficult days of our lives.   We will cherish the memories of our time with Josephine, Lino and Suzie.    May God rest their precious souls.    Love from Kathy and Keith

Her life so beautifully recorded in these pictures you chose! Went  thru  a slew of tissures  as I scrolled through them all! A piece of my heart feels fractured but I try to keep uppermost in my mind that she is having a grand reunion with all those whom she missed so badly! Keeping all the family in my prayers as you navigate through all this! Love you guys!

It was a blast hanging out at my Tia Fina and Tio Lino's house. My cousins Doreen, Lino, Susie and Mary are more like brother and sisters to me.  I am sad to know those days are gone here on Earth but my faith comforts me knowing we will see each other again one day.  Until then Gorgeous... Kiss the family for me. I love you.
