Mary Frances Long was born on August 2, 1925 and passed away on January 30, 2022. She was 96. She was a strong, one-of-a-kind lady, who leaves a great legacy. She was the oldest daughter of Burton Gilbert Odell and Clara Mary Hartman. Her sisters were Catherine Fletcher and Margaret Silvernail, who both preceded her in death. She married Harry Cornelius Long at age nineteen . Together they had seven children: William, Patricia(who passed away in 2021), Richard, Michael, Regina, Catherine and Margaret.  Harry passed away in 1995.  She was a grandmother to 20 children, one of whom passed away as a baby. She was a great grandmother to 28, and a great, great grandmother to two.
 
Mary had a sharp mind, a quiet spirit, determination and a kind heart. Her life wasn’t easy, but she always persevered. She loved reading, working her crossword puzzles and talking politics.  She was valedictorian of her high school class. Mary worked during World War II and met Harry at a World War II dance.  They married, but divorced years later. She got an associate degree and worked as a social worker for LA county. She purchased a home within walking distance of our church, grade school and high school.  Because of her strong Catholic faith, she put all her children through private school. After she retired,  she traveled in a motor home across the country seeing 49 states and Canada.  She was adventurous like her dad, who traveled alone after his wife passed away.  She hoped we would love to travel too.  Today she is at peace and home with her loved ones in heaven, especially our sister, Patty.  Together they will be watching over and praying for us.  They are greatly missed.
