David James Bastian, age 74, resided for the past 19 years in Electric City, Washington. David passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington due to causes incident to cancer on Saturday, July 8th, 2017.
David was born on September 10, 1942, in Spokane, Washington to Weldon Wilford Bastian and Melba Ardyce Parker. He is survived by six siblings: Larry Bastian, Marlene Bastian Safsten, Bonnie Bastian Williams, Steven Bastian, Penny Bastian Lindsay and Daniel Bastian.
David enlisted and served in the Army Reserve for six years and received an honorable discharge as a Sergeant (E-5) on September 30, 1967. David also served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northeast British Mission from 1964-1966. Following his mission, he attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration on August 21, 1970.
On August 15, 1972, he married the beautiful Marilyn Squires of Spokane, WA in the Ogden Utah Temple. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and children: Nicole Bastian Johnson and her husband Edward of Eugene, Oregon; Lt Col Russell Bastian and his wife Valancy of San Antonio, Texas; Lance Bastian and his wife Kristy of Sandy, Utah; 9 grandchildren: Matthew Bastian, Ethan Bastian, Michael Bastian, Elizabeth Bastian, Luke Bastian, Joseph Bastian, Genevieve Johnson, Graham Johnson and Elise Bastian.
David retired as the Vice President of Finance for the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union after working in the banking industry for 34 years. He also participated in the Lion’s Club and Rotary Club and actively served in many leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including High Counselor and Bishop. David loved boating and waterskiing with his family, building and remodeling houses, and gardening. His final residence was a beautiful two-story home in Electric City which he built. David was a generous and caring individual who always found time to serve and love those around him. He blessed countless lives for good and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Services will be conducted for David at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 806 Spruce Street, Coulee Dam, WA 99116 at 10:00am, Saturday, July 15, 2017. A brief Graveside Dedication will take place at Pines Cemetery in Spokane Valley, WA at 10:30am on Monday, July 17, 2017.
