Tom was a Concrete Mason by trade, worked and retired from Valley Cement in Auburn WA.
He met the love of his life Patsy Marilyn Mahand, deceased, in the 1960's. They eventually married and raised four children Jimmy Elli, Kenny Elli, Rick Elli and Dorothy (Sister) Hertel. Later in life they also adopted and raised their granddaughter Leah. Family was all important to them both. He and Pat were blessed with 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Tom also leaves behind a large extended family; nieces, nephews, spouses of children & siblings and countless friends.
Tom enjoyed the company of children, as he was a big kid himself. He had a lifelong fascination with trains, which got him into some trouble as a young man who enjoyed the thrill of riding in boxcars with his brothers. This type of wild activity was traded in for a life with Pat and his favorite pastimes evolved into family camping trips, boating, dirt biking and fireworks! The 4th of July was one of his favorite holidays and since Pat's passing in 2012 many a mortar was lit off in the backyard of the house they owned in Covington for 40+ years.
During their retirement they traveled the country pulling a fifth-wheel and always choosing a Thousand Trails Park with a pool for Leah. After Leah started school those trips were reduced to summer vacation.
One of Tom's signature habits was "stopping by unannounced" for coffee. It was his way of checking up on everyone and always knowing the current scoop & goings-on.
Tom was always available to his family and friends. His favorite color was red. He never missed a holiday, birthday, or celebration. Tom was larger than life; he was generous, honest, caring and loyal. His passing will leave a huge void in the lives of all of us who knew and loved him.
Strate funeral home of Grand Coulee, WA is assisting Tom's family.
