

He retired from Hamlin-Allman Steel Corp. as a structural steel detailer. He was a long-time farmer who enjoyed taking care of his cattle and fishing.
Mr. Waddell was a member of Solomon Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a former member of the Council and served on the Cemetery Committee.
He was a member of VFW Post #1990. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having volunteered at the age of 17. He was in the Pacific Arena during World War II, serving on the USS Nassau CVE-16 during this time.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years: Betty J. Waddell; son and daughter-in-law: Don and Janet Waddell; daughter and son-in-law: Jeanne and Tommy Burns; grandchildren: Joel and Jody Burns, Justin and Jessica Burns, Andrea and James Barnard, Stephen and Michelle Waddell, Amanda and Scott White, and John and Anna Waddell; great grandchildren: Grayson Burns, Lawson Burns, Simon Burns, Gwendolyn Barnard, William Barnard, Kaylie Burns, Mackenzie Burns, Hannah White; several nieces and nephews; a sister: Beatrice Witt; brother-in-law and wife: J.S. and Wanda Fillers; and a sister-in-law: Madelyn Greene.
He was preceded in death by his parents: David and Francis Waddell; brothers and sisters-in-law: Herbert and Lenora Waddell, Oscar and Hattie Waddell, Claude and Addie Waddell, and Luke and Easter Waddell; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lydia and Herman Seaton, Elsie and Jimmy Renner, Ioda and Decator Solomon, Kathleen and Sam Collins; and a brother-in-law: Mike Witt.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm Saturday at Solomon Lutheran Church.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00pm at the church with Pastor Sterling Nelson, Joel Burns, and Don Waddell officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Military Honors Team will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Waddell, Stephen Waddell, Justin Burns, John Waddell, Joel Burns, James Barnard, and Scott White.
Honorary pallbearers are the men of Solomon Lutheran Church, friends, and neighbors.
