

Dorothy Ruth (Hawk) Ottinger, 90, of Greeneville, the St. James Community, passed away Tuesday July 26, 2022 at Life Care Center of Greeneville.
She was a graduate of St. James High School class of 1950 where she enjoyed basketball. She was a former employee of Magnavox and later retired from Numark (Far Industries) in 2000. After retiring she dedicated herself to making a home for her family and working on the family farm. She also helped with St. James Appalachian Helping Hands Center, the Second Harvest Bank Food Services and helped with the Greene County United Way for many years. She was a member of Women of the Farm Bureau and Caney Branch Home Demonstration Club.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she was organist for more than 60 years. She also was an organist for Luther Memorial in Parrottsville, the church where she was married. She enjoyed gardening, canning and homemaking. She was faithful to visit and care for the sick and made sure everyone was well fed. She was very proud of her grandsons always attending ballgames, band concerts and school functions with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Alden Rex Ottinger; her parents, Roy and Josie Hawk; four infant siblings. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ross and Claude Ottinger; brother-in-law, Roscoe Ottinger; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard and Charlotte Cutshaw; a nephew, Roscoe Cutshaw.
She is survived by two daughters: Billie Byerley and husband, Stanley; Lisa Holt; two grandsons, Sean Holt and wife Lindsey; Bradley Holt, a special great grandson, Wyatt Alexander Holt; a special niece, Velvet Hopkins and husband Greg; great niece and great nephew, Mary Beth and Martin Hopkins, several cousins and a host of friends and neighbors, especially her beautician and special friend, Tammy Hensley.
The family will receive friends at Kiser-Rosehill Funeral Home 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022 with the funeral following at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Larry Moore and Pastor Norman Deal officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Pallbearers will be Sean Holt, Bradley Holt, Bobby Joe Shipley, Kim Neas, Jack Neas, Kyle Reaves, Terry Reaves and Mickey Reaves. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family and her neighbors.
