

Jerry had a strong faith in God. He loved his family and friends and took pride in his work. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved good conversation. He enjoyed a variety of sports and read extensively. He loved animals and nature.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years: Wendy McAmis Hammontree; his beloved cat: Lucy; one sister: Shirley Johnston and husband, Lanny, of Greeneville; two nephews: Derek Eikenberry of Johnson City, Joseph Watson of Knoxville; special friends: Bonnie Guthrie of White Pine, Mike Hoss and Vicki Hughes of Greeneville, and a number of other dear friends.
He was the son of the late Allen G. and Claris Keller Hammontree and was preceded in death by an infant sister, Margaret Hammontree.
Jerry was a 1968 graduate of Greeneville High School and a 1973 graduate of Tusculum College. He pursued his early career in business working for Interstate Automatic Merchandisers of America, Greeneville Oil Company, Kingsport Publishing Company, etc. He then spent several years in state service. He worked at Greene Valley Developmental Center where he is best remembered for his service in Staff Development. Later, he transferred to the Greeneville Regional Office, continuing to work to provide support services for individuals with developmental disabilities. For the past eight years, he has served as the executive director of the Lakeway Achievement Center in Morristown. This agency provides support for individuals with developmental disabilities.
The funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2012, in the Kiser-Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. James Fain officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Fairview Cemetery (Snapps Ferry Road).
Honorary pallbearers will be the individuals who are served by and the employees of the Lakeway Achievement Center and Greene Valley Development Center and the Board of Directors of the Lakeway Achievement Center.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff providing services at Laughlin Memorial Hospital, 4th floor and Intensive Care Unit.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Those who prefer may make donations to the American Humane Society or to the American Red Cross.
