Johnny Hutton

Johnny Charles Hutton, age 75, of Greeneville, passed away Friday at his home. Born to Howard (“Boots”) and Dorothy Hutton, Johnny lived on a family farm in the Bright Hope community his entire life. He was proud to be the 4th generation on the family farm and enjoyed sharing memories of growing up on a dairy farm. After graduating from South Greene High School, Johnny attended Milligan College and earned a B.S. degree in health and physical education. He coached and taught school for 12 years at Sunnyside, West Greene and Glenwood schools. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching and had fond memories of all the teams he coached.

Sports were an important part of Johnny’s life. He started playing organized baseball at 8 years old and played through college. After college, he played in the county baseball league. He gained many friendships through his involvement in sports and coaching. Johnny enjoyed golf and regularly played with a group of special friends.

Johnny met his wife, Jane, on a blind date in 1981 and they were married a year later. In that same year, Johnny took over the operations of the farm after his dad retired due to health issues.

Johnny was a kind, generous, compassionate, and peaceful person. He never met a stranger and always saw the good in people. He loved his family, his friends and his pets. He said his greatest joy was being a dad to his sons, Ben and Tim. His Christian faith was an essential part of his life

and was the source of peace during his final days.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard (“Boots”) and Dorothy Hutton, and step-mother, Ethel Smelcer Hutton. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jane, sons, Ben and Tim, his dog Bella, special in-laws, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Johnny’s life is planned for Sunday, December 31 at 2:00 pm at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Tommy Collins officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Bible, Bobby Bowers, Logan Eavenson, Bruce Fields, Roger Haun, Ralph Horne, Jimmy Lister, David Pate, Alejandro Vega and W.C. Wilhoit.

The family welcomes memorial contributions to a local food bank, an animal shelter/rescue, or the Pine Grove Cemetery Fund.
