He was a retired pilot and electrical contractor.
Mr. Umlauf was a member of Greeneville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Mr. Umlauf served in the U.S. Air Force from 1940-1979 and is a veteran of World War II. He served as an aerial gunner, twin engine instructor, B-29 engineer, and F84 jet pilot.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law: Lana and Jim Roberts, and Linda and Fred Foster, all of Orlando, and Vadis and Dr. Remy Sagadraca of Greeneville; nine grandchildren: James Minesinger, Stephanie Wyand, Randy Foster, James Roberts II, Jenn Breitfeller, Julie Roberts, Scott Sagadraca, Jeni Sagadraca and Philip Sagadraca; eight great-grandchildren: Christopher Foster, Kyle Wyand, Lindsey Wyand, James Roberts III, Delaney Roberts, Luke Roberts, Victoria Breitfeller and Anthony Breitfeller; one great-great-grandson: Marcus Foster; two sisters: Doris Horner of Tampa, Fla., and Alice Owen of Hendersonville, N.C.; two brothers: Frank Umlauf and his wife, Pat, of Mount Dora, Fla., and Raymond Umlauf of Villa Roca, Ga.; two special cousins: Sharon Thorne of Nice, Calif., and Hannelore Koerting of Fuerth, Germany; and a special friend: Darlene Gregg.
He was the son of the late Gustav Umlauf and Amy Coble Umlauf and was preceded in death by his wife, Zula Beller Umlauf, and a brother, Arthur Umlauf.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
Pastor Jeremy Arnall will officiate.
Interment will be in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family members.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Amedisys Hospice and his friends at Tannery West.
