A proud Mom who became the proudest Gramma in the world, she embraced her role like no other.
In her life she was an athlete, a lifeguard, a teacher, a volunteer, a golfer, a card player, a world traveller, and an enthusiastic shopper. Mom passed peacefully, with her children holding her hands, in the early morning hours of Remembrance Day – a day that meant so much to her.
The loving daughter of our grandparents, Marg and Gerry Schwab, Mom kept their memories alive for all of us with the very best stories. She was an incredible Mom to me (and my husband, Jon) and my brother Scott (and his girlfriend, Dee), and the most amazing Gramma to Jake (Savanna), Meg (Blake), Nick and Sean. Hannah and Ava held special places in her heart. Mom was a devoted sister to Bob (Norma) Schwab and Aunt to Jay and Gerry (Amy). Wife of the late Darrel, Mom is lovingly remembered by his children Scott (Jen), Shelby (Kyle), and their families. Dearest friend to the late Ken Woodcock.
A good friend to many, Mom worked hard to stay in touch with a very busy social calendar. She truly never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time, excitedly sharing all the news about her family – her pride and joy.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Wellington in Guelph, who were so kind and caring in Mom's final hours with us, or Stedman Hospice (Hankinson House) in Brantford, where Mom volunteered for years, would be gratefully appreciated.
Mom's wishes were not to have a formal service, but rather for us to plan a fun family dinner where we can share stories, celebrate, and honour her privately.
If you would like to honour our Mom, hug your grandchildren extra tight, hand-write and mail a specially-chosen card, book the trip you’ve been thinking about (do the safari – you’ll never regret it), go shopping at the local mall or market, make photo books, pay it forward at the Tim Hortons drive-through, or head to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls.
We love you so much, Mom. You'll be missed forever.
