Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Carolyn lived a life shaped by curiosity, intelligence, kindness, and a deep love of people, animals, learning, music, family, and traditions.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband and love of her life, John Pawley (1939–2019), whom she missed deeply. Together they shared a love of travelling, which they did widely after retirement.
Carolyn was the cherished mother of Samantha and Rob Pawley (Sylvia), proud grandmother to Hannah, Maya, and June, dear sister to Donald Roberts (Janet), aunt to Collin and Douglas (Megan), and cousin to many. She treasured her mother’s Ukrainian heritage and her large extended family connections across Canada.
Carolyn earned her B.A. from McMaster and M.LS. from the University of Toronto. She had a distinguished career as a professional librarian at the University of Guelph.
Carolyn found fellowship through Dublin Street United Church, the Tru Ki Lo women’s group, and previously with PROBUS, 3rd Age Learning, and professional university library organizations such as OCULA, where she served as president for a term.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mom’s PSWs, especially Amaka, Yodit, and Lauren, Guelph First Responders, and Rev. Bruce Dickson, for their kindness, support, and compassionate care.
As we celebrate Carolyn’s remarkable life, family and friends are invited to wear their brightest and most beautiful shades of pink—her favourite colour—in her honour. She would have been tickled pink!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Dublin Street United Church (guelphunited.org/Dublin/) or New Hope Animal Rescue (newhopeanimalrescue.ca).
