Edna was born on Jan 22, 1931 in Carman, Manitoba. She grew up on the family dairy farm with her three sisters: Doreen, Joyce and Marlyn, and learned the values of hard work, resilience and compassion that would guide her throughout her life. She received her early education in a rural one room schoolhouse with her sisters, then graduated from the Winnipeg Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She was the valedictorian for her class, an achievement that reflected both her intelligence and how much she was beloved.
Edna married Reg in 1955 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and supported him while he completed his Engineering degree. They moved to Ontario and together they built a life grounded in family and unwavering commitment. Edna was a devoted wife and mother of Bob and Carol, and a steady source of strength and encouragement to her family. She was delighted and blessed with the addition of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for faithfully sending annual birthday and anniversary cards, never missing an opportunity to mark life’s milestones and let loved ones know they were remembered and always in her heart. Edna was also involved in her local community enjoying tennis, golf, bridge and lunches with the ladies.
Edna’s life was one of devotion. She recently celebrated a remarkable 70 years of marriage with Reg and their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them. When told of her passing, with tears in his eyes, Reg replied “I’ve lost my bride”.
Above all Edna will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, quiet strength, sharp mind and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of kindness and dedication will live on in the generations she nurtured and the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and remembered, and will live on forever in our hearts. She is at peace with the angels. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
