Helen Janet McLean

Born in Crieff, Ontario, on September 18, 1929, Helen was the cherished daughter of the late Jack and Sarah Paddock. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Grant, and now rejoins him in God’s care. She was also predeceased by her brothers William, Frank, John Roy(the late Carolyn), and George (in infancy), predeceased by her sisters Isabelle Duerksen (the late Walter), Blanche Mayer (the late Bruce). A loving aunt to Jeannie Curato (Anthony), Tracy Duerksen and John Duerksen.

Helen will be fondly remembered as sister-in-law to Gordon McLean (Marjorie), the late Ken McLean (the late Aggie), and Ruth Ann Charlton (the late Ron). She was a loving aunt to Brad (Shannon McLean), Jeff McLean (Cindy), Scott McLean (Heather), Terry and Pam Charlton, Nancy Charlton (the late Clyde Rose), Marilyn Charlton, and Janice (Glenn Anderson).

She will be deeply missed by her many extended family members, great nieces and nephews, great great nephews and friends.

A proud graduate of the Guelph General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1951, Helen dedicated her entire career to caring for others. She worked for many years as a head nurse in Guelph and spent time at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Helen’s compassion, professionalism, and leadership touched countless lives throughout her career.

Though gentle and caring, Helen was known for her strength, independence, and sense of humor. She loved a good game of euchre, a cup of tea, and time spent with friends. Her social calendar was always full. She enjoyed flowers, long drives, and could give directions anywhere. Spring was her favorite season, and her family fondly remembers her oft-repeated advice to “keep your seams straight.”

Visitation will be held at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 12 noon. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Wellington would be appreciated by the family.
