Loving husband to Margit of 53 years. Proud father to Jackie (Andrew) and Viktor (Kayla). Cherished grandfather/Tata to Ivy, Locklyn, and Magdalene. Dear brother to Eva, and Maria, who was also like a sister.
Traveling back and forth from Yugoslavia to Canada, Istvan (aka Steve to many) and his family finally settled in Guelph for the second half of his life. Proud of his Canadian identity, he also took great pride in preserving the customs, traditions, and values of his Hungarian heritage. While his life was simple between working at Miknar Machine and spending time with family, the love and kindness he gave to everyone was anything but simple. He wouldn’t hesitate to spark up a conversation with anyone, and the lucky ones who came across him would remember him forever. It wouldn’t just be for the stories he told, it would be for the kindness he showed to everyone. His grandchildren will have only the most loving memories of him and will remember him for his enthusiasm for enjoying life and to never forget to laugh. Most importantly, he made you realize that it didn’t matter if the joke was funny or not, it was being with the people you loved while you told the joke that mattered. He will be missed by all friends and extended family.
