It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jackie Bassingthwaite on May 3, 2024, in the presence of her son and daughter in law, each hand held tight. Age 79, at St. Joseph's Health Centre, in Guelph.
Beloved wife to the late Frank Naegele. Devoted mother to Gord Shelton. Proud grandmother to Mason Shelton & Caroline Shelton. Dear sister of Halson Foster. Predeceased by James Foster (Father) Velma Foster (Mother) and Clayton Glen (Step-Father) Will be missed dearly by her son Gord Shelton (Courtney Blackburn), older brother Hal Foster, her two grandchildren Caroline and Mason Shelton, lifelong friends to Mary Dornan and Sharon Hastings and mother figure to Rob and Jim Hastings.
Jackie Bassingthwaite was one of a kind. This is something that is said often about almost everyone who eventually passes on. However, in this case, it's different. Jackie worked as Head Supervisor and Dispatcher for Metro Recycling for 35+ years. It's during this time that she met most of her lifelong friends, and made the most impact on those who loved her.
She is described by many as a mother figure, in that she would sit and listen to your situation and give you honest, true advice, she was one of those rare types of people that you could truly depend on. Her older brother Hal describes her as the best sister he could have ever asked for, that he was proud of her for working so hard during her time as a single mother, to provide everything and more for her son Gord. She was a hard working woman, and when she set her mind to it, she did it.
When you became friends with Jackie, you became a life-long friend. Jackie did things for people without question, if you needed help, she was there. If you needed to talk, she was there. And if you just needed someone to listen, she was there for that too. Jackie was an amazing mother figure and mentor to Rob and Jim Hasting whom both have fond memories of many times Jackie stepped in and showed that she cared.
Growing up she made sure she chose to raise her son in a family friendly neighborhood which is where Gord met his childhood best friend, son of Mary Dornan. "She was a mom like out of a movie, she never complained about anything. Not once, if the weather was bad and I had to be somewhere she made sure I got there. My mom gave me a good childhood, and she was there to help me navigate my young adult years. My mom was my best friend right up until the end."
She will be dearly missed, but she will never be forgotten to those who were fortunate enough to have her enter their life.
