His beloved wife Kathy with whom he shared 45 wonderful years of marriage will forever miss him.
A devoted and proud father to daughters Victoria (Tyler) and Christine (Liam).
He was a cherished Papa to his grandchildren James and Neve Poppy.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister Kathleen Whitney (Jim), his brother Eugene (Diane) and was predeceased by his brother Patrick (Sherry.) Dear brother in law to Wilma Hill (Dave), Agnes Corke (late Dave), Mary McDowell (Danny) and Joanne Ross (Bud). He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by good friends Sharyn and Mike Cassel and Karen and Ian Short.
He dedicated over 30 years of his career to Guelph General Hospital Laboratory where he led the Transfusion Medicine Service with commitment and care.
A big time Blue Jays fan, he followed the team faithfully and was enjoying their recent winning streak. In his free time, he was an avid reader and loved tackling his daily crossword puzzles, and he spent sunny afternoons on the golf course with friends. One of his goals in retirement was to pursue his interest in musical instruments both through the saxophone and most recently the banjo. His home was filled with love for family and his beloved pets, Roxy and Philly. Philly in particular was often found napping peacefully on his belly while he watched television.
Above all, he was proud of his daughters’ accomplishments and always looked forward to their visits. A great joy of his was being called Papa by his adored grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at WRHN Midtown Cancer Centre (formerly Grand River Hospital) and the Bayshore palliative care team for their compassionate care during his recent illness, as well as all of the family and friends who have been there during his time of need.
As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the WRHN Midtown Cancer Centre. Donations and condolences can be made on-line at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com
