Joan Elizabeth Inwood

Our hearts are heavy as we share that Joan Elizabeth Inwood passed away peacefully at Hospice on September 4, 2026, at the age of 74, following a courageous years-long battle with her health. Joan was the centre of our family — the one who remembered every birthday, who showed up without being asked, and who made ordinary days feel special simply by being herself.

Joan’s life was marked by devotion to the people around her. She was born in South Porcupine, Ontario and together with her husband raised her children in Port Dalhousie. She began her career as a nurse later choosing to stay home to raise her children, pouring her caring nature, humour, and steady presence into her family. Later, she returned to the work she loved, spending the bulk of her career as a homecare coordinator, supporting clients and families with the same compassion she brought to every part of her life. Joan loved to travel and be creative, enjoying hobbies such as cake decorating, painting ceramics, and making jewelry.

She had a great sense of humour, right until her last day, with a goal of providing joy and comfort to others. She showed up, always, for her friends and her family. She had a gift for making people feel cared for, understood, and never alone. Family and friends were everything to her, as she was to all of us.

Joan is loved, missed terribly, and survived by her daughter, Shannon; her grandchildren, of whom she was so incredibly proud, Logan and Audrey; and a very large and loving extended family and group of friends. Joan was predeceased and welcomed with loving arms by her parents, Zdenek and Mary Barta; her husband, Paul; her youngest daughter, Maureen; and so many close family and friends who she loved and missed deeply.

Joan’s family extends its sincerest gratitude for the loving comfort and care provided by Hospice Wellington in her final days, as well as care provided by Guelph General Hospital, Cancer Care at WRHN, and ParaMed.

A celebration of her life will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, September 11 at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home. If you feel moved to do so, donations can be made to Hospice Wellington or Canadian Cancer Society.

We will spend the rest of our lives loving her and remembering the many happy times spent together.
